COVID-19 cases surge as health chief calls for early vaccination

 jul26

The latest data shows that the positive rate for COVID-19 tests among recent patients seeking medical consultation for fever and respiratory symptoms has reached 25 per cent, Health Bureau director Alvis Lo Iek Long said as quoted by public broadcaster TDM.

This indicates that the virus is already at a relatively high level, while the positive rate for influenza virus tests stands at 15 per cent, which sits right on the warning line.

Lo noted that although it is not currently the influenza vaccination season, the COVID-19 vaccine remains available for administration. He called on the elderly, young children, frail individuals, and other high-risk groups to get vaccinated early to strengthen their personal protection.

Lo also urged citizens who develop respiratory symptoms or a fever to seek medical attention promptly, wear masks in public places, and get plenty of rest to prevent the spread of the virus. He advised the public to maintain regular exercise, a balanced diet, and adequate sleep to enhance their immunity.
